Pepsi is launching a $200 smartphone with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 13MP camera, 3,000mAh battery

The internet was abuzz today with rumors of, yes, another new Android smartphone. This had less to do with device itself and more that it was coming out of the most unlikely of places: PepsiCo. Officially dubbed the Pepsi P1, images and hardware specs of the phone were leaked earlier today by Chinese site Mobipicker.

With the cat now out of the bag, Pepsi just came out and confirmed rumors of the China-only device, but wouldn’t reveal their hardware partner (although we think the phone looks an awful lot like something Huawei would make). The surprising part is the device’s specs, which seemingly offer up nice value for being priced around $200. Here’s what we’re looking at:

Pepsi P1 specs

  • 5.5-inch 1080p display
  • 1.7GHz quad-core processor
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • 13MP/5MP cameras
  • Fingerprint reader
  • Android 5.1 Lollipop
  • 7.62mm thin metal body
The Pepsi P1 will supposedly launch on October 20th and will be just one of the many products PepsiCo offers around the globe which includes everything from branded apparel to accessories. It’s certainly not the weirdest thing we’ve seen from the company who once offered a clear version of their soft drink called Pepsi Crystal (spoiler: it flopped) and launched the Pepsiman video game for the original PlayStation back in the day.
