(VIDEO) Sony Xperia Z5 Premium - Bend Test, Scratch Test, Burn Test - Durability

Glutton for smartphone torture, are you? Well, the video you see above should be quite fulfilling. It’s theSony Xperia Z5 Premium, and it’s being taken through a torture test by Youtuber Jerry Rig.

The torture test consists of knives being scraped across its metal and glass exterior, flames being applied to the display, and the all-important bend test to see if it can survive a day in your pocket. There are a couple of interesting notes to take away from the video:
The camera lens seems easily scratchable, likely due to it being a plastic lens. This is an unfortunate trait for a device being marketed premium, and is especially troubling from a company who prides itself on great camera performance.
The glass panels on the front and rear hold up to keys and knives just fine, though.
The metal sides of the device will suffer light wear and tear from keys and coins.
The phone can bend, and bad. But as long as it’s not in your back pocket when you go to sit down it should be fine.

Keep all this stuff in mind if smartphone durability is important to you. The video is sitting above, so be sure to hit the play button and give it a watch if you’re curious.

Sony Xperia Z5 goes up against the iPhone 6S Plus in a real world camera test [VIDEO]

Sony Xperia Z5 vs Apple iPhone 6s Plus Detailed Camera Comparison. Comparing the front-facing selfie cameras, the 4K/23 megapixel rear facing cameras, auto-focus and audio of the iPhone 6s Plus vs Xperia Z5 Premium for both video and photos with example shots indoors, outdoors and in low-light.
Despite not knowing what Sony’s plans are regarding the launch of the Sony Xperia Z5 here in the states (they recently cancelled the launch of the Verizon Xperia Z4v), the device still has us intrigued.
Not only does it look great, but the phone recently received top honors in DxOMark’s list of best smartphone cameras, edging out even the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Nexus 6P, and LG G4. With such a high score, you’d think the Xperia Z5 would have no trouble mopping the floor with the iPhone 6S Plus, but that wasn’t really the case…

The ad will run the U.K. TV from November 1st through November 8th. This is not the first time that Sony has called on 007 to promote its handsets. Sony now says waterproof Xperia phones should not be used under water

Most of the recent waterproof Xperia smartphones and tablets come with the IP68-rating. 6 This translates into a dust-tight device, while the second digit - the 8 - means submersion into deeper than 1 meter of clean water for 30 minutes or more.

Before the Z5 Sony Xperia lineup, many of the Xperia phones were advertised with the press photos showing selfies or taking group photos with fully submerged underwater devices. Those images indirectly suggested you can actually do those things.

But we know Sony has been reluctant to repair devices with liquid damage. In many cases the company said the damage resulted by some of the plastic caps not being tightly closed and thus the warranty did not apply.

It turned out supporting waterproof phones is a tricky business and Sony has finally taken care of the problem by altering warranty terms and conditions.

As of recently Sony does not allow full submersion underwater, no matter the kind of water. It says NOT to use any waterproof device for underwater actions, such as taking photos.

Here are some excerpts of the new waterproof conditions:

The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater, such as taking pictures. Do not use the device to take photos while performing any type of activity underwater, including diving or snorkeling.
Taking photos and movies in wet surroundings. Remember not to use the device underwater. If you accidentally get the device wet with non-fresh water, wash the device with tap water.
Sony devices that are tested for their waterproof abilities are placed gently inside a container filled with tap water and lowered to a depth of 1.5 meters. After 30 minutes in the container, the device is gently taken out and its functions and features are tested.
The rest remains the same - close all covers, if you drop your phone / slate into a pool / salt water rinse it under tap water, and that speakers and mics can stop working for up to 3 hours after water exposure.

Reading further Sony still allows you to use your phone under rain, the shower or in pools where splashes of water are all around. Just not fully submerge it. And in case you do, it will most probably endure.

While some people may have been overly abusive with their waterproof phones, perhaps Sony should take a large part of the blame as it made the IP rating and the key selling point for its devices. Now that it has changed its policy many will certainly be disappointed, but it's better to be clear with customers about what they are getting rather than facing issues with after-sales support.

For more information you should definitely visit Sony's support page. And to drop us a line in the comments section, saying whether you'd still be getting a Sony phone if it were not for all the water fun promises.

Sony Xperia Z5 camera autofocus speed test (VIDEO)

One of the coolest features about the 23MP camera on the Sony Xperia Z5 is its sheer speed. Auto-focusing speed, that is, as the Hybrid AF technology in use lets the cam lock the focus faster than the blink of a human eye. Here's a demo.

Image quality, however, is one thing. Camera speed is a whole different story. Both factors are of importance to anyone serious about photography, and Sony knows that well. As a matter of fact, Sony has time great efforts into improving the latter - we're promised extremely fast auto-focusing out of the Z5 smartphones' cameras. Given optimal conditions, they should be able to focus on an object in as little as 0:03 seconds, which is about 10 times faster than the blink of an eye. In comparison, the top phones of yesteryear boasted focusing times of about 0.3 seconds to 0:27.

But is the Xperia Z5's camera as fast as Sony claims it to be, or does the record-breaking figures exist only in the realm of theory? Well, our impromptu text gives a hint, and the results are very promising. While attending the IFA 2015, we took an Xperia Z5 and the way its 23MP camera to the test. Firstly, we pointed it at a far object until it focused on it. Then we panned the camera quickly onto an object located about 6 inches (15 centimeters) away from the handset. Did the camera nail it? See for yourself in the video below.

Sony Xperia Z5 Premium - official videos

With the first 4K display phone, the Xperia Z5 Premium, Sony has kept its signature Xperia flagship design concept overall, with "frosted" glass and metal frame, but has introduced some new twists on the Z5 Premium, such as swapping the circular OmniBalance power / lock key with an elliptical ones, and for a good reason.

The flagship is outfitted with a fingerprint scanner there, which is arguably the most ergonomic place to put it, going all the way down beneath the display, or even on the rear. While Sony's phones are not the first to come with such a side sensor (Honor 7i was the first), they are the first brand-name phone maker that will obviously utilize those en masse, as both the Z5 and Z5 Compact are graced with one , too.

The Xperia Z5 Premium is a tad on the large side for a 5.5-incher at 154.4 x 76.0 x 7.8 mm, and quite hefty at 180g., Yet you are getting a premium waterproof chassis, and a large 3430 mAh battery that can keep the 4K phone going for Sony's typical two days of endurance, so no complaints. Check out all the official images and videos below.

Sony Xperia Z5 press images leak, 23MP rear camera with six-element lens confirmed

Barely a week before the IFA 2015 kicks off, the press images of the Sony Xperia Z5 have been leaked, confirming the upgraded 23MP rear camera.

Although we have seen a number of Xperia Z5 images leaked so far, it is the first time that the camera specs have been confirmed. Chinese sources had recently indicated that the Xperia Z 5 will be equipped with a 23MP rear camera, so it turns out they were pretty accurate with the info.

The new sensor may boast of higher resolution, but retains the 1 / 2.3 "size of the IMX220 sensor used on the Xperia Z-series flagships right from the Z1 in 2013 to the Z3 + launched earlier this year. Apart from the sensor, the lens setup has been upgraded as well. It is now a six-element lens setup, similar to a number of other high-end flagship smartphones in the market.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra, Xperia M5 handled before announcemen (PHOTO)

Sony has been teasing a product announcement for August 3, two days from now, and the main theme for it seems to be gold. We are, however, quite intrigued by the more orthodox white and black Xperias that posed for a hands-on photoshoot on Russian tech site hi-tech.mail.ru. Though the article has been removed by now, the images are already circulating and they leave little to the imagination.

The handsets in question are the oft-leaked Xperia C5 Ultra, also known as Sony Lavender, and the so far unheard-of Xperia M5 (but perhaps Aqua moniker this time?).

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra

The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra looks as striking as the leaks suggested, its side bezels nearly non-existent at 0.8mm. In between them sits a huge 6-inch HD display, but thanks to the thin frame the smartphone is reasonably compact - of course, as much as a 6-inch phablet can be compact. The size comparison to the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus above reveals just how efficiently the C5 Ultra's footprint has been utilized.

The smartphone comes with a 13 MP primary camera on the back, but that's not its chief claim to fame. In keeping with C-series traditions, the Xperia C5 Ultra is strong on selfie photography and now boasts a second 13 MP sensor on the front, up f
rom the 5MP of the Xperia C4. The front flash has not been forgotten, too.

The less exciting lines in the specsheet sheet and Mediatek 6752 chipset, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage (expandable via microSD). The 2,930mAh battery may prove inadequate for such a large diagonal, but we can not know for certain until we get to test those. The 187g weight, on the other hand, sounds about right for the size.

The price in Russia is quoted at the equivalent of $ 340- $ 360, but the figures there are often a bit higher than average, so it may end up being more affordable elsewhere.

Sony Xperia M5

Sony Xperia M5 has a design very similar to the design of the Xperia Z 3 +, which in this region will not see. She funra conventional 5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display, and runs the eight-core MediaTek Helio X10 clocking 2 GHz with a fine 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of expandable memory.

And new Xperia M5 has a promising Camera - 21.5 megapixel Exmor RS camera back, allegedly with 5x zoom with no loss in image quality with support for 4K video. The front is in turn 13 MP selfie camera.

Xperia M5 will occupy the profile of 7.6 mm, and has a battery capacity of 2600 mAh. There will be a dual SIM version. Despite an open USB port, fura IP65 / IP68 water resistance certification.

Xperia M5 will reportedly cost between $ 390 and $ 406

There is apparently a forthcoming a Sony smartphone, namely phablet codenamed Lavender and mark the Sony E5506 and E5553. Published page user manual evoke the device as if it has no side frame, and that extends from edge to edge.

We see that the speaker is located at the front on the model of the Xperia Z3 and opportunity. and whether it is stereo speakers for now can not confirm that.
